Difference Between Water Trampolines and Water Bouncers
Updated: 7/3/2023
Water trampolines and water bouncers offer a great deal of fun and fitness opportunities. These two options are different from each other and offer a variety benefits and features for water recreation.
How They Are Made
In the trampoline community, water trampolines are described as cousins to the land-based product. The biggest difference between the construction of a water trampoline and a water bouncer is that a water trampoline is made with springs. These springs connect the jumping pad to an outer tube, just like a land trampoline. On the other hand, a bouncer features webbing that connects the jumping pad to the outer tube.
Both products typically have a heavy-duty inflatable outer tube, which serves as the main support structure on water. However, some water trampoline models are built with a metal frame that is on the outer support tube. Water bouncers are never made with a metal frame. Most water trampolines have additional support with PVC reinforcement.
Shape and Size Differences
The shapes of water trampolines and water bouncers are very similar. Nearly all models are round, usually an octagonal structure. However, there are a few models that are rectangular.
Because they have more support in their structure, water trampolines offer larger models than water bouncers. The size range for round water trampolines is between 11 to 25 feet in diameter. The rectangular version can reach up to 25 feet in length.
Water bouncers are usually smaller in size, ranging from 10 to 15 feet in diameter.
Bounce Comparison
The bounce comparison between the two models is one of the biggest differences for the consumer. Since water trampolines have springs and a more reinforced structure, they offer a significantly higher bounce than water bouncers.
On the other hand, you will not experience the same bounce quality from a water trampoline or water bouncer as you would in land-based models. Because there is water involved, much of the bounce is absorbed by the water, rather than the force reflected off the ground.
Who Can Use Water Trampolines or Water Bouncers?
If you are purchasing a water trampoline or water bouncer, you should research the manufacturer’s specifications for age ranges for the model you want and adhere to that. Most have age recommendations for 6 and up, and others suggest 12 and up.
Most importantly, children of all ages must be properly supervised on either model to ensure safety. They should wear a flotation device for optimum safety in the water.
Weight Limitations
Again, because of the structural differences between a water trampoline and water bouncer, water trampolines generally support more weight. Water trampolines can accommodate between 200-1000 lbs. Most water bouncers can accommodate between 200 to 500 lbs.
Many manufacturers specify a maximum number of jumpers rather than a weight limit. Consumers should be mindful of these specifications when choosing and using the product.
Accessories Available
A wide variety of accessories are available for both water trampolines and bouncers.
Depending on the manufacturer, many models can accommodate slides, launchers, rope swings, logs, beams, sidewalks, lounge attachments and platforms. If you have your heart set on a specific attachment, be sure to check which model is compatible with that.
Price Comparisons
Water trampolines are typically more expensive than water bouncers. Because they are equipped with more hardware, water trampolines require a higher budget than than most bouncers.
Bouncers are generally less expensive. You can find some entry-level models as low as $200, but you can expect to pay as much as $3000 for larger, higher-quality options.
Most water trampolines will cost at least $1000, but price tags can reach upwards of $6000.
Set-up Times
Water trampolines require assembly and longer set-up times since they come with more materials and hardware. Most models will take you at least an hour to set up.
Since water bouncers only require inflation and anchoring, set-up times are about 30 minutes. Water bouncers do not require any assembly.
Therefore, water bouncers are ideal for a quick visit to a lake or river. Many water trampolines, on the other hand, are set up long term and anchored during an entire season.
Durability
There really is no difference between water trampolines and water bouncers when it comes to durability. Both are made with high-quality materials and will last the same amount of time if properly cared for.
Storage for Your Water Trampoline or Bouncer
Water trampolines are meant to stay anchored in the water through the season, thus require less storage time.
Both water trampolines and water bouncers need to be dried and deflated completely before storing. They should be cleaned with a mild detergent (avoiding anything abrasive or petroleum based) at least once a year. Many manufacturers also recommend a UV-protection treatment before storing in the off-season.
Which Option is Best for You?
If you prefer a higher jumping experience, have a higher budget, and can keep your equipment anchored long-term, a water trampoline is a great option.
If you don’t want to spend a lot of money and cannot keep your unit installed longer than a day or two, a water bouncer may be a better choice.
Either option will offer a great deal of enjoyment to you and your family in the water!
